(23520) Ludwigbechstein is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 23, 1992 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .

The asteroid was named on July 5, 2001 after the German writer Ludwig Bechstein (1801-1860), who, along with the Brothers Grimm, is one of the most important editors of German folk tales .

(23520) Ludwigbechstein belongs to the Vesta family , a large group of asteroids named after (4) Vesta , the second largest asteroid and third largest celestial body in the main belt.
