(24939) Chiminello is an asteroid of the Main Belt . It was discovered on May 1, 1997 at the San Vittore Observatory ( IAU code 552) in Bologna .

The asteroid is named after the Italian astronomer Vincenzo Chiminello (1741–1815), who worked at the observatory in Padua .
