(29700) Salmon is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 19 December 1998 by the American Italo- astronomer Paul G. Comba at Prescott Observatory ( IAU code in 684) Arizona was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Irish mathematician and theologian George Salmon (1819-1904), who studied algebraic curves and surfaces and wrote several books on geometry that have been translated into many European languages.
