(3355) Onizuka is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 8 February 1984 by Edward L. G. Bowell was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the American astronaut Ellison Onizuka , who died on January 28, 1986 as a mission expert on the Challenger flight STS-51-L . The space shuttle was torn apart shortly after takeoff by the explosion of its liquid fuel tank.
