(4037) Ikeya is a major belt asteroid discovered on March 2, 1987 by Kenzō Suzuki and Takeshi Urata of the Toyota Observatory .

The asteroid is named after the amateur astronomer Kaoru Ikeya , who discovered a total of five comets between 1963 and 1967 .
