(4174) Pikulia is a main belt asteroid discovered on September 16, 1982 by Lyudmila Ivanovna Chernych from the Crimean Observatory .
The asteroid was named after the Soviet writer Valentin Savvich Pikul ' ( Russian Валенти́н Са́ввич Пи́куль ) (1928–1990).
