(5369) Virgiugum is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on September 22, 1985 by the Swiss astronomer Paul Wild at the Zimmerwald Observatory of the University of Bern at a brightness of 16.5 mag. Subsequently, the asteroid could already be detected on recordings made in September 1934 at the observatory in Uccle , in August 1951 at the Palomar observatory , and in November 1975 and July 1978 at the Crimean observatory .

The Latinized name of the asteroid means "yoke of the Virgin", based on the Jungfraujoch on which the Sphinx observatory is located. The ordinal number 5369 of the asteroid can also be put together from the ordinal numbers of the asteroids (2040) Chalonge and (3329) Golay , which are named after astronomers who researched there.
