(9561) van Eyck is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 19 August 1987 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Flemish painter and representative of Old Dutch painting Jan van Eyck (1395–1441), whose most famous work is the Ghent Altarpiece .
