Álvaro Quirós García (born January 21, 1983 in San Roque ) is a Spanish professional golfer on the European Tour .
He played on the second-class Challenge Tour from 2005 , won his first tournament there in 2006 and in autumn 2006 he was eligible to play on the big European Tour at the Tour School . When he first appeared in December 2006, Quirós won the tournament at the Alfred Dunhill Championship , a South African event that is part of both the European Tour of the 2007 season and the Sunshine Tour .
Quirós won his second European Tour victory at the Portugal Masters 2008, where he finished with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes on Sunday and won three strokes ahead of Paul Lawrie . He finished the season in 25th place in the Order of Merit . In January 2009 he won his third tour title at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters , which promoted him to the top 50 of the official golf world rankings for the first time . He finished the season in 20th place in the newly introduced Race to Dubai .
Quirós is known for its wide tee tees and was the longest tee on the European Tour with an average of around 310 yards in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
In May 2010, Quirós won the Open de España by one stroke. He finished the season in 14th place in the Race to Dubai.
In February 2011 Quiros won his fifth title on the European Tour at the Dubai Desert Classic . He secured the title by one stroke over James Kingston and Anders Hansen . During the final round, Quiros made a hole-in-one on the 11th hole (par 3) on his way to victory . In December 2011 he won the Dubai World Championship, his highest prize money to date (€ 922,645) and finished the season in 6th place in the Race to Dubai.
The 1.90 m tall long hitter has been looked after by former Ryder Cup player José Rivero since 2003 .
