Alibek Qassymov

Älibek Chamiduly Qassymow ( Kazakh Әлібек Хамидұлы Қасымов , Russian Алибек Хамидович Касымов ; born September 18, 1954 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh Colonel General .

Life

Älibek Qassymow was born in Alma-Ata in 1954. He attended the Higher Military Command School in Alma-Ata, which he graduated in 1975 and later the Frunze Military Academy in Moscow . He graduated here in 1985.

He began his military career in the Soviet armed forces in 1975 as the commander of a motorized infantry platoon in the Baltic military district in Kaliningrad . From 1977 he was commander of the 6th motorized infantry company and then from 1981 deputy commander of the 79th Guards Infantry. Between 1985 and 1992 he held various positions, including chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, commander of a motorized rifle regiment and deputy chief of the command staff of the Transcaucasian Military District.

After Kazakhstan's independence, Qassymov was the first deputy chief of staff of the 40th Army of the Kazakh Armed Forces from May to August 1992 . From August to November 1992 he was head of department and deputy head of the Kazakh Defense Staff. From November 1992 he was first deputy minister of defense and chief of staff of the armed forces. On October 16, 1995, he was appointed Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan in the cabinet of Prime Minister Akeschan Kaschegeldin . He held this post for about a year until he was replaced by Muchtar Altynbajew on October 30, 1996 . In 1997 he became a military attaché in Turkey and on October 12, 2001 he was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
