Säken Ädilchanuly Schassusaqow ( Kazakh Сәкен Әділханұлы Жасұзақов , Russian Сакен Адилханович Жасузаков * 25. October 1957 in Tschaldar, Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh colonel general and politician .

Life

Saken Shassusaqow was born in 1957 in the village of Tschaldar in southern Kazakhstan . He graduated from Alma-Ata High School for Military Leadership in 1978 . From October 1981 to October 1983 he served in the Soviet Army , where he was also used in the Soviet-Afghan War . From September 1987 to June 1990 he attended the Frunze Military Academy in Moscow and from June 1994 the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation .

After graduating from the Military Academy, he was Deputy Chief of Staff of the Kazakh Armed Forces from 1996 . From 2000 he headed the intelligence department in the Kazakh Ministry of Defense and from 2002 to 2003 he was the commander of the Kazakh mobile forces. In September 2003, he was appointed chief of staff and first deputy commander of the Kazakh Land Forces . On December 4, 2004, he was appointed commander of the Eastern Regional Command. On April 17, 2007 he became the first deputy chairman of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan. From April 1, 2009, he was the commander of the Kazakh Land Forces, and in March 2010 he was appointed the country's first deputy defense minister and chairman of the committee of chiefs of staff of the armed forces. On September 13, 2016, he was appointed Kazakhstan's new defense minister by President Nursultan Nazarbayev . He held this position until August 7, 2018.

After he was dismissed as Minister of Defense, he was appointed Rector of the National Defense University. After the serious explosions in Arys , which resulted in the death of four people, Shassusaqov was released from the Kazakh army on August 7, 2019 for improper performance of his duties and serious failure to ensure the safety of weapons and ammunition in ammunition depots .

Säken Schassusaqow is married to Gulnara Schassusaqowa. The two have two sons.
