List of rose varieties |
The rose variety 'Ännchen von Tharau' (syn. 'Annie of Tharau', 'Annette de Tharau') is a bright, pure white, large-flowered rose that was bred by Rudolf Geschwind in the Slovakian carp in 1886 . The rose variety comes from a hardy Rosa alba and an unknown Ayrshir rose . The assignment of the rose to the old roses is not undisputed in the literature. Some authors count them among the Rambler or Ayrshire roses or among the Alba multiflora hybrids .
education
The tall rose 'Ännchen von Tharau' forms a strong, compact shrub. The rose plant is about 250 cm to a maximum of 400 cm high and 150 to 200 cm wide. The pure white to creamy white flowers, arranged in small clusters, with a light pink center are formed from 25 to 40 outwardly curved petals . They form an 8 to 10 cm large, double rose blossom. The rose bud later opens into a tightly filled, bowl-shaped to spherical flower, in the middle of which the light yellow stamens become visible.
The rose variety has 4 to 8 cm long, oval-shaped, very finely toothed leaves. The young foliage initially appears light green on long green shoots that are covered with numerous reddish to brown spines . Later, the matt, dark green foliage creates an intense color contrast with the large white flowers. The rose variety 'Ännchen von Tharau' is characterized by a light, fruity scent of cinnamon .
The rose variety that blooms once is extremely hardy ( USDA climatic zone 6b to 9b). It blooms in early summer and is resistant to the well-known rose diseases . It is only susceptible to star soot after flowering.
The rose 'Ännchen von Tharau' thrives in well drained soil in sunny to partially shaded locations. The rose is often grown as a climbing rose. It is suitable for planting near-natural gardens and cottage gardens , as a background planting of flower beds and for greening walls.
The rose variety is found in many rosariums and historical gardens, including in the Arboretum Borova hora (Slovakia), in Les Chemins de la Rose (Maine-et-Loire, France), in the Rosarium in Doblhoffpark (Baden, Austria), in the Rosarium Petrović ( Serbia), in the Rosenpark Reinhausen (Lower Saxony), in the Rosarium of the city of Uetersen (Schleswig-Holstein), in Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe (Hesse) and in the Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen (Saxony-Anhalt).
In 2001, the rose variety was awarded the Dowager Rose Queen (ARS) rating at the Cleveland Rose Society Show .
Naming
The rose was named after the well-known folk song Ännchen von Tharau , which was originally written by Simon Dach as a wedding song in Samland Low German as Anke van Tharaw . The 16- stanza poem was set to music by the Königsberg cathedral organist Heinrich Albert .
