The Äußere Schwarze Schneid ( also Äußere Schwarze Schneide ) is a 3255 m high mountain in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol , Austria . It is located southwest of the Gaislachkogel and north of the Venter Valley , a side valley of the Ötztal . The valley location from which the Äussere Schwarze Schneid can be reached is Sölden .

The Äußere Schwarze Schneid is easy to see from the Ötztal Glacier Ski Area and from the Ötztal Glacier Road. To the west and south-west of the summit are the Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner , which are accessible by ski lifts. A cable car also leads to the neighboring Gaislachkogel.

The highest tunnel in Europe, which is part of the Ötztal Glacier Road and leads to the Tiefenbachferner, leads through the mountain.
