The outer Knappenkopf ( 3031 m above sea level ), also called the outer Knappentröger or the outer Knappenträgerkopf , is a mountain peak in the Granatspitz group ( Muntanitzkamm ) in East Tyrol . It is the highest peak of the Knappenkopf and lies between the Inner Knappenkopf and the Knappentrögerscharte ( 2974 m above sea level ) in the southwest. The Äußere Knappentröger lies on the border of the municipal areas of Kals am Großglockner and Matrei in East Tyrol and west of the Luckenkee. Neighboring peaks are the Luckenkogel in the southwest , while the Outer Knappentröger is separated from the Veinspitze in the northeast by the Veinscharte.
The normal ascent to the Äußere Knappenkopf begins at the Kalser Tauernhaus and initially leads along the Silesia Höhenweg. About one kilometer after the Laimesbach (also called Loamesbach), the unmarked ascent branches off to the west into the notch between Luckenkogel and Äußere Knappenkopf. The final ascent takes place over the southwest or southeast ridge. Both variants have climbing points of the I category .
