The Luckenkogel is 3100  m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks in the Granatspitz group in East Tyrol . It is on the border of the municipal areas of Kals am Großglockner and Matrei in East Tyrol in the Muntanitzkamm . Neighboring peaks are the Graue Schimme in the south and the Äußere Knappentröger in the northeast .

Summit construction

The Luckenkogel lies above the Luckenkees between the Knappentrögerscharte ( 2974  m above sea level ) in the southwest and the Luckenscharte ( 2983  m above sea level ) in the south-southwest. In the southeast, the Luckenwand joins the Luckenkogel, to the northwest there is a ridge connection to the Goldredlscharte ( 2680  m above sea level ), which is followed by the Brochetkopf ( 2663  m above sea level ). In the northeast, the elongated northeast ridge runs with the Inner and Outer Knappentröger to the Artery.

First ascents

The Luckenkogel was first climbed by surveyors via the northern Loameskees in 1870. The first tour-like ascent took place in 1871 by Victor Hecht with guide Thomas Groder from the southeast over the Luckenwand. The first crossing of the Luckenkogel succeeded Adeline Edwards with guide Tobias Trost in 1907 from the northeast ridge over the south-southwest ridge. The first ridge crossing from Brochetkogel was made on June 28, 1927 by Nichard Gerin, Georg Hecht and Noman Szalay.

Increase opportunities

The normal ascent to the Luckenkogel begins at the Kalser Tauernhaus and initially leads along the Silesia Höhenweg to the Laimesbach (also Loamesbach). As a result, the ascent runs unmarked to the west and continues into the notch between Grauer Schimme and Luckenkogel, whereby an ice field must first be crossed. The final climb over the southeast ridge has climbs in difficulty I on. In addition to climbing the south ridge, the Luckenkogel can also be easily climbed via the north-east ridge. To do this, first follow the Silesia Höhenweg one kilometer further north and then branch off into the notch between Luckenkogel and Äußerem Knappentröger. The northeast ridge also has climbing points of the I category.
