Victor Hecht (* 1847 Haslau near Eger , then Bohemia , Austrian Empire ; † June 16, 1904 in Linz ) was a lawyer and alpinist who made numerous first ascents and first ascents in the Alps.

Life

Hecht was born in 1847 as the son of August and Marie Hecht and grew up with his grandfather after their early death. He was already active as a mountaineer in the Alps during his law studies at Charles University in Prague and his doctorate.

In the 1870s, together with local mountain guides - such as Hans Pinggera - he climbed several three-thousand-meter peaks , including in the mountain groups of the Hohe Tauern , the Lechtal , Zillertal , Ötztal and Ortler Alps , some of them on new routes or as a first climber. Hecht's companions were Karl Hofmann and Johann Stüdl , with the latter he was active on the board of the Prague section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club , where both were founding members.

His personal records listed "over 300 high peaks, including 100 peaks over 10,000 feet above sea level".

When Hecht had to bivouack unprepared on the Sassolungo in the Dolomites in 1890 , he contracted a severe nervous disease with symptoms of paralysis. In 1901 Hecht was also forced to resign from his position as court and court advocate in Prague and moved to Linz- Urfahr , where he died in 1904.
