Édouard Debétaz

Édouard Debétaz (born September 13, 1917 in Mathod ; † March 24, 1999 in Lausanne , resident in Fey ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

The son of a farmer studied law at the University of Lausanne . From 1942 to 1962 Debétaz worked as a notary in Yverdon .

He began his political career as president of the Jeunesses campagnardes , later the Jeunesses radicales . In 1952 he was in the council of Yvonand elected; from 1954 to 1957 he was mayor. From 1956 to 1975 he represented the FDP in the National Council . In addition, from 1962 to 1981 he was State Councilor for the Canton of Vaud and Head of the Department of Agriculture, Industry and Trade. From 1975 to 1987 Debétaz was a member of the Council of States ; In 1984 he was President of the Council of States . From 1980 to 1988 Debétaz was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .

Debétaz mediated between various economic interests and campaigned, among other things, for tenant protection .
