Edouard LeBel

Édouard LeBel (born December 11, 1865 in Sherbrooke , † February 17, 1939 in Montreal ) was a Canadian singer ( tenor ).

LeBel studied singing with Achille Fortier and Guillaume Couture . From 1885 he was a soloist in the Montagnards Choir , which was directed by his brother-in-law Charles Labelle . Later he was a soloist of several church choirs, most recently the choir of Saint Jacques Cathedral , to which he belonged for 30 years and which he directed from 1912.

LeBel often appeared as a soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Montreal Philharmonic Society , where he sang roles in Elijah , Samson et Dalila , Tannhäuser and Roméo et Juliette, and in 1905 Abel in Alexis Contants Caïn .

LeBel left about forty recordings on the Berliner , His Master's Voice and Victor Records labels . Contemporary witnesses have compared his voice to Enrico Caruso's . His daughter Germaine Lebel was also known as a singer.
