The Égide-de-Bœck-Kulturzentrum is a non-profit educational organization headquartered in Lisala , which has set itself the task of promoting knowledge of the Lingala language . It is a cultural institute similar to the Portuguese Instituto Camões , the British British Council , the French Alliance française , the Italian Società Dante Alighieri , the Spanish Instituto Cervantes and the German Goethe Institute .

Surname

The Égide-de-Bœck-Kulturzentrum is named after the Belgian linguist Égide de Bœck , the author of the first grammar for Lingala and promoter of the language in church and teaching. Égide de Bœck worked mainly in New Antwerp and Lisala between 1900 and 1944 , most recently as apostolic vicar .

Field of activity

The Égide-de-Bœck-Kulturzentrum publishes grammars, dictionaries and teaching material for Lingala. On the other hand, it offers language courses. One focus is on clerics and radio speakers, i.e. people who are professionally involved with Lingala and are still reasonably financially strong in the impoverished Democratic Republic of the Congo .

Sponsorship

The Égide de Bœck cultural center is supported by the diocese of Lisala . It arose from their need that the priests and catechists, who often speak Lingala as a second language, have good language skills.
