The Ile de Sein is a cable layer of ALDA Marine, a joint venture of Alcatel-Lucent (51%) and Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (49%). The ship is named after the island of Île de Sein in Brittany .

General

The ship was built on the South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and christened on November 13, 2001 in Ulsan together with the sister ships Île de Batz (IMO No. 9247041) and Île de Bréhat (IMO No. 9247053) .

Since the delivery in December 2001, the Île de Sein has been in long-term charter for Alcatel Submarine Networks. The crew and technical support are provided by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs. The cable layer has exceptional maneuverability and can load up to 7,000 kilometers of submarine cable , which can be laid either up to a depth of 6,000 meters on the seabed or in a three meter deep self- plowed trench at water depths of up to 1,500 meters .

Other use

On April 13, 2011, the Île de Sein was chartered by the French Civil Aviation Safety Investigation Agency ( BEA ) for the fifth search phase of Air France Flight 447 . Some body and wreckage was loaded with this ship after 2 years of search.
