The series 4023, 4024 and 4124 of the Austrian Federal Railways are electrical TALENT - railcars , the manufacturer between 2004 and 2008 Transportation Bombardier delivered.

Numbering and areas of application

UIC marking of the locomotives

The Austrian TALENT railcars are classified with the generic symbol BDET and labeled with the UIC identification of the locomotives 94 81 4023 xxx-x, 94 81 4024 xxx-x and 94 81 4124 xxx-x, where xxx is the serial number and x is the check digit are. This encodes the following information: Austrian multiple unit with less than 190 km / h, electrically driven express rail car for inner-city and suburban traffic with 2nd class seats .

Differentiation of the different series and their areas of application

Row 4023

ÖBB 4023 in cityjet design

The ÖBB designates the three-part version of the TALENT railcar as the 4023 series. The shorter variant is used on the Peggau – Übelbach line instead of the four-part variant, because the platforms on the S11 S-Bahn line are too short for the 4024 series. The shorter S-Bahn multiple units also operate in Carinthia and Salzburg .

The classic four-part vehicles are called 4024. With 140 units delivered, they form the backbone for public transport in Austria. They are used in all areas with a large volume of local traffic ( all S-Bahn systems and some regional connections ).

The 4124 series (initially labeled as Rh 4824) is an electric two-system multiple unit for transport in 15 kV and 25 kV networks. 37 pieces were delivered. The 25 kV facility is used when deploying from Vienna to Hungary via the  Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter railway lines .

Passenger compartment and exterior design

Most of the passenger compartment is equipped with four-seater seats. There is also a compartment for bicycles, strollers and wheelchairs.

Since the end of 2017, the repainting in the ÖBB Cityjet design and the upgrading of the interior have been in progress, which should be completed by 2022.

In addition to the ÖBB Cityjet design, there are also state-specific paintwork and railcars with full advertising (e.g. for Mastercard or combined tickets).
