Ökobüro - Alliance of the Environmental Movement is an umbrella association of Austrian environmental protection organizations based in Vienna . As an alliance, Ökobüro includes 16 different environmental, nature and animal protection organizations such as Global 2000 , Greenpeace , the Austrian Nature Conservation Union , Vier Pfoten and WWF Austria . Ökobüro works on a political and legal level for the interests of the environmental movement. The environmental scientist Peter Weish has headed the Ökobüro as chairman since it was founded .
history
The Ökobüro was founded in January 1993 as a coordination point for Austrian environmental organizations by the environmental associations Greenpeace Austria , WWF Austria , GLOBAL 2000 and the Environment Forum - Forum Austrian Scientists for Environmental Protection (today: Forum Science & Environment ). Today 16 organizations from the environment, nature and animal protection area belong to the eco office. Ökobüro has been a recognized environmental organization in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment Act since 2005 .
Content focus
Ökobüro works primarily to:
- Public participation in the planning and construction of roads, power plants, factories, commercial sites and other large and small projects. Above all, this includes the legal anchoring of rights of participation for environmental protection organizations on the basis of the Aarhus Convention .
- Protection of the interests and rights of environmental protection organizations in particular and of organized civil society in general in order to strengthen democracy .
- Climate protection , energy transition and transport transition
- Sustainability policy : Ökobüro is committed to the fastest and most ambitious implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Austria. In July 2018, the environmental association appealed to Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz to "end the deadlock in sustainability policy". The reason for this was a critical report by the Court of Auditors , which had identified far-reaching deficits in the federal government. According to this, there is currently no nationwide strategy for implementing the SDG goals in Austria.
