Ölberg Chapel (Altdorf)
The Ölbergkapelle is a Roman Catholic chapel in Altdorf in the canton of Uri . The early baroque building erected in 1656/57 stands behind the northern, mountain-side facade of the parish church of St. Martin and is classified as a cultural asset of regional importance . The Altdorf church district also includes the cemetery and the ossuary chapel of St. Anna in front of the parish church.
The renewal of the church district that had begun six decades earlier was completed with the Mount of Olives Chapel. The building is oriented from southwest to northeast and faces the rearmost church staircase. The three-sided choir and the nave have a barrel vault . The altarpiece on the altar dated 1658, painted by Antonio Busca, depicts a scene from the Mount of Olives. Three murals also come from Busca (Last Supper, the Capture of Christ and Christ before Caiaphas). This ensemble is one of the earliest examples of painted Mount of Olives scenes. To the left of the entrance is the carved high grave of the hermit Niklaus Zwyer, who died in 1546.
