Özlem Bulut (* 1982 in Tunceli Province , Turkey ) is a Kurdish-Turkish opera and jazz singer (soprano) who lives in Austria and works in the field of world music .

Life

Özlem Bulut began her career as a street musician. At the age of 14 she attended the Mersin Üniversitesi Conservatory of Music , after which she continued her studies at the Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi Istanbul Conservatory , and then began studying in Vienna in 2006 with an Erasmus grant . In addition, she had engagements at the Vienna State Opera , the Opéra Bastille in Paris. From 2008 to 2014 she was a permanent member of the Vienna Volksoper . In her own project, the singer and musician has been combining elements of Anatolian and oriental music with jazz , pop and soul since 2008 . In 2008 she received the Austrian World Music Awards with the ensemble . This was followed by appearances at the Donauinselfest , the ORF Radio Culture House and the Porgy and Bess . Most of the music comes from the Viennese composer and pianist Marco Annau , who is also a co / author and co-producer for the project. In 2011 her debut album Bulut (Turkish for cloud) was released on Extraplatte . Since then the singer has performed with her project in Austria, England, France, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, Poland, and Germany. The project is considered an example of the fusion of Eastern (Oriental) music with Western jazz and pop, and is accordingly perceived as world music , ethno-jazz or pop . The lyrics are in Turkish and quite timely: Fatma is about child marriage , the ID song is about life without ID. In 2012 Özlem Bulut received the Mia Award .

In 2014 the second album of the Özlem Bulut Band Aşk (Turkish for love) was released by Hoanzl , with which the singer reached number 13 in the European World Music Charts . In 2015, Aşk was published under DMC in Turkey. In 2016 Aşk was published by Harmonia Mundi in France .
