The hamlet Ünglert is a district of Mudau in the Odenwald with around 75 inhabitants.

geography

Ünglert is located in northern Baden-Württemberg in the “Mudauer Odenwald”, near the state border with Bavaria , about 3 km north of Mudau and about 1.5 km east of Donebach at the confluence of the Mudbach and Donebach rivers . Amorbach (in Bavaria) is about 11 km north.

place

Ünglert was first mentioned around 1400 as "Ungler". It is an old mill location with formerly five, later even seven mills. The mill settlement on the Mudbach in the Ünglertsgrund started from the Amorbach monastery . Today there is only one of these mills, the giant mill . Ünglert only has four streets (Am Wasserrad, Am Mühlbach, Im Mühlengrund, Ünglertstraße).

additional

In 1956, the movie Thousand Melodies was shot in Ünglert .

In 2006, dinosaur tracks were found at the disused quarry in Ünglert. However, most of the finds were already badly damaged.

As in the area around Ünglert, a dialect with peculiarities is spoken in the small community itself. For example, an “o” becomes an “ö”. The same applies to “u” and “ü”, but not analogously for the vowel “a”. There is no evidence that this is why “Ungler” became the name “Ünglert”. Occasionally, consonants are also changed or replaced (for example, “Smirk” becomes “Schpunzeln”). Otherwise, the dialect is similar to that prevailing in the area.

There is a community center in the village that can be used for celebrations. Every year the Easter market and the Christmas market of Ünglert take place at the community center. In addition, the mill day takes place every year.
