The class ES 499.1 (from 1988: class 363 ) is an electric two-system locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) for universal use. It can be used in the 3 kV direct current system in the north and east as well as in the 25 kV alternating current system in the west and south of the former Czechoslovakia . The class 363.5 was converted from locomotives of the ČSD class E 499.3 independently of the locomotives .
history
The locomotive was developed by Škoda in Plzeň in the late 1970s. The first two prototype locomotives ES 499.1001 and 1002 could be completed by 1980, which were delivered to ČSD in December 1981. In 1984 the first ten series locomotives were put into service by ČSD in the Přerov depot . By 1990, Škoda had delivered a total of 181 locomotives in five series.
The series E 499.3 (today 163) and S 499.2 (today 263) were derived from the ES 499.1 series by omitting the components required for direct current or alternating current operation .
In 1990 a further development of the ES 499.1 / 363 with a top speed of 140 km / h was presented for the first time as the 362 series. In 1989, 30 series 362 locomotives were ordered. However, in 1991 the contract had to be canceled due to financial difficulties.
In 1993/1994 and 2000/2001, the maximum speed of 14 ČD locomotives was increased from 120 to 140 km / h. The bogies of these were exchanged for those of the 162 series. In 1999 a similar conversion of 15 locomotives also took place at the Slovakian ŽSR . The converted locomotives were classified as class 362 by both railway administrations.
The 363 series is the most numerous series of electric locomotives of the Czech Railways (ČD) today . The Slovak ZSSK also owns a number of vehicles . In recent years, the electrified long-distance routes in the Czech Republic have been extensively modernized and accelerated, which means that faster locomotives have been required. For this reason, most of the locomotives have now been converted to the 362 series, in future there will only be 363 series locomotives at ČD Cargo . Some locomotives of the 362 series have also been given WTB , external cameras and modernized driver's cabs with new controls for use with push-pull trains .
In mid-November 2007 the 362.166 was equipped with ETCS Level 2 . ETCS is not yet being used as planned in the Czech Republic, the Poříčany - Kolín section was equipped with ETCS balises as a pilot project for test purposes. The 362.166 is usually used for such ETCS test drives.
