Český Heršlák (panorama)

Český Heršlák (German Bohemian Hörschlag ) is a village in the municipality of Horní Dvořiště in Okres Český Krumlov (Krumau District) in the Czech Republic . Hörschlag Castle was of strategic importance in the 15th century.

history

In the Middle Ages, a variant of the Linzer Steig , an old salt trade route, led from Linz via Freistadt through Hörschlag to Budweis .

Around 1440, the wealthy Zinnespan family (Zinispan, Zündspan, Cinišpáni in Czech) bought the Tvrz Český Heršlák ( Tvrz Český Heršlák ), after which they named themselves. In September 1467, Zdenko von Sternberg took the Hörschlag festival by a trick and forced the Zinnespan to transfer the castle to him. Soon afterwards Hörschlag came between the fronts of the Austrian Emperor Friedrich III. and his challenger Matthias Corvinus . Jaroslav Lev von Rosental , chief steward of the Kingdom of Bohemia , moved against the land above the Enns in 1474 , conquered both Hörschlag Castle and Haslach Market and then besieged Waldenfels Castle . In the same year Governor Reinprecht V. von Walsee and Bernhard von Scherffenberg besieged the Hörschlag festival without success. In a new attack in 1478, Scherffenberg was able to temporarily take the castle again.

In 1546 the festivals, the Meierhof and the mill are listed as deserted. Later a castle was built on the site of the former castle.

From 1653 to 1800 Hörschlag Castle was owned by the Muckenberg family.

In the 19th century, Bohemian Hörschlag gained importance as a train station on the Budweis – Linz – Gmunden horse-drawn railway .

building

Only the empty vaulted cellar remains from the old Hörschlag fort. The well, in which clear water still rushed in the 20th century, has now been buried.
