İsmail Arca (born September 5, 1948 in İnegöl ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of activity and the success he has achieved for Eskişehirspor , he is very strongly associated with this club. Fan and club members regard him as one of the most important players in club history and refer to him as Büyük Kaptan (German: Great Captain ). With 418 games, he is the player with the most premier league appearances for Eskişehirspor and is tenth in the list of players with the most Süper Lig appearances.
Player career
society
Arca showed great interest in playing soccer as a small child and spent most of his free time on the football field . Here those responsible for İnegöl İdman Yurdu (later İnegölspor ) became aware of him and obliged him. At his new club he quickly asserted himself and achieved the championship of the Bursa Amatoer 1. Ligi with teammates like Vedat Okyar and Hayrettin Endersert , who would later all become big stars of their time .
At the end of the season he was kidnapped by those in charge of Eskişehir Şekerspor (or, according to some sources, Eskişehir Fatihspor) and then persuaded to move. For this club he was active for a year and made it into the Turkish U-18 national team.
In 1965, in Eskisehir , the club Eskişehirspor founded and for participating in the TFF 1. Lig logged. Since this club should represent the city of Eskişehir, all the talents of the smaller clubs were passed on to this club. So Arca also moved to Eskişehirspor and was one of the players in the first team. Already in the first season you reached the championship of the 1st Lig and thus promotion to the Süper Lig .
The first two seasons in the top Turkish league were successful for Arca. On the one hand, he completed almost all compulsory games and, on the other hand, he was nominated for the Turkish youth national teams. His team took eighth or ninth place in the table and was not noticed as a team. In the third Süper Lig season, the season 1968/69 , was achieved entirely surprisingly, the runner-up of the Süper Lig. Until this season, the big three Istanbul clubs decided Besiktas , Fenerbahce and Galatasaray , the championship of the Süper Lig or the runner-up among themselves. This success was the greatest of an Anatolian team in Turkish football to date. After this championship, they established themselves as a fixture in Turkish football and reached the runner-up again in the next two seasons. In the 1969/70 season they also reached the final of the Turkish Football Cup , but lost it against Göztepe Izmir . The 1970/71 season they finished fourth in the league, but this time they won the Turkish Football Cup and the Turkish Supercup . The 1971/72 season ended again as runner-up. Eskişehir was one of the top addresses in Turkish football until the mid-1970s. Arca played a major role in these successes over this period as a constant regular and head of defense. He also rose to the position of team captain relatively quickly and wore the armband until the end of his career. Eskişehirspor had become a club at the beginning of the 80s that played against relegation. Arca played for his club until 1982 and ended his playing career after his club missed relegation.
He said goodbye with a farewell game in which Eskişehirspor competed against a selection team consisting of former national players.
National team
Arca played for the Turkish U-18 and U-21 national team until he made his international debut for the Turkish national team on April 24, 1968 in a friendly against the Polish national team . From then on he became a fixture in the national team for several years. He made 27 missions for Turkey and scored one goal. Arca was the captain of the national team for a long time.
In 1974 he took part in the ECO Cup with Turkey and won it at the end of the tournament.
