Škoda Auto India Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian automobile manufacturer and a subsidiary of the Czech manufacturer Škoda Auto , which belongs to Volkswagen AG .
history
SAIPL is headquartered in the Five Star Industrial Area in the Shendra district of the city of Aurangabad in India . The company, founded in November 2001 by Helmuth Schuster in cooperation with Johann Johannsen , is a member of Volkswagen Group Sales India and at the time was the only locally producing automobile manufacturer in the group. The company currently has 2,500 employees. Since March 2010, production has been 171,000 units per year.
Models
As the first model in India, Škoda established the Skoda Octavia , which quickly became the brand's best seller by the end of production in 2010. The successor, which has been renamed Škoda Laura for the local market , is currently set to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. Audi has been producing the Audi A6 in Aurangabad since 2006 and the Audi A4 since 2008 . The Audi Q5 is delivered from Ingolstadt completely dismantled in individual parts and assembled for the surrounding markets. In the meantime, the Škoda Fabia was added, which, unlike in the People's Republic of China, only occupies a marginal position. Around 1,000 Audi Q7s are built there every year . Finally, in summer 2013, the Audi Q3 was added. In spring 2014, the Audi A3 was integrated into the existing Q3 line. Individual parts for local production are delivered from various plants. For example, parts and components for the Audi Q7 come from Bratislava, Slovakia, for the VW Jetta from Puebla, Mexico, and from Emden for the VW Passat .
In May 2009, the company's second plant was opened in Chakan near Pune, India. The Volkswagen models Polo, CrossPolo and Vento are manufactured here (as of June 2014). Škoda also has the Rapid manufactured there. The production of the Fabia was stopped in mid-2013 due to lack of demand.
