Železničná spoločnosť Cargo Slovakia, as (German literally Railway Company Cargo Slovakia AG ), short name: ZSSK CARGO , is a state railway company in Slovakia . The former company Železničná spoločnosť, as was split up on January 1, 2005 into the two successor companies Železničná spoločnosť Cargo Slovakia, as for freight transport and Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko for passenger transport .

ZSSK Cargo operates with around 7,700 employees, 800 locomotives and 16,000 own railway wagons . The transport volume of ZSSK Cargo between 1999 and 2003 was around 50 million tons per year. During the same period, around 10 billion tonne kilometers were transported each year. Compared to the German part of the Railion Group , the Austrian Rail Cargo Austria , the Polish PKP and the Czech CD , these are low values. These values are comparable with those of the Hungarian MAV .
privatization
In 2005, the Mikuláš Dzurinda government had plans to privatize ZSSK Cargo. Interested parties were the German company Railion, the Austrian ÖBB , the Hungarian MAV and the Ukrainian rail freight operator. After the change of government in summer 2006, the plans under Robert Fico were put on hold until further notice. The award for Rail Cargo Austria, which was believed to be certain, did not take place.
In October 2007 there was another attempt to enter into a cooperation. The possible cooperation partner was the Czech company ČD Cargo . The then Transport Minister of Slovakia Ľubomír Vážny saw the future in the European competition between the two state-owned companies secured. With this opinion, however, he opposed the prevailing opinion of the ruling party LS- HZDS .
