… Les borgnes sont Rois (German … the one-eyed are kings ) is a French short film by Michel Leroy and Edmond Séchan from 1974, which won an Oscar at the 47th Academy Awards in 1975 .

content

The film is about Léon, a man of advanced age who lives with his mother in an apartment in an apartment building in Paris. Léon has to put up with the fact that the first place in his mother's heart is her dog, a little king for the old lady and all her pride. She even allows the animal a place next to her at the dining table and pampers him in every other way. Due to the old age of his mother, Léon is the one who has to walk the dog every day. There are always incidents caused by the pampered animal. Since Leon is uncomfortable, he puts on dark glasses to fool people he meets while walking that he can hardly see anything and is therefore dependent on the animal. The reaction of those around you is accordingly considerate and you can now see the animal after certain bad habits, and Léon even manages to make friends with some men who play boules in the park .

When the dog runs away one day at an unguarded moment and runs home, Léon's mother reacts by removing the animal from him, which she now entrusts to the caretaker 's wife for walks. Now that it becomes apparent that Léon was only pretending that he could barely see, the joy he had just gained turns away from him.
