(1240) Centenaria is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on February 5, 1932 by the German astronomer Richard Reinhard Emil Schorr in Hamburg-Bergedorf .

The name of the asteroid was chosen on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the Hamburg observatory ( Centesima : Latin for the hundredth ).
