(1244) Deira is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 25 May 1932 by the South African astronomer Cyril V. Jackson in Johannesburg was discovered.

The name of the asteroid is derived from the ancient name of Ossett in Yorkshire, the birthplace of the discoverer.
