(1282) Utopia is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 17th August 1933 by the South African astronomer Cyril V. Jackson in Johannesburg was discovered.
The name of the asteroid is based on the mythical, fictional place Utopia , which in turn is derived from the novel Utopia by Thomas More.
