(12978) Ivashov is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on September 26, 1978 by the Soviet astronomer Lyudmila V. Shuravlyova at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid was named after the Soviet-Russian actor Vladimir Iwaschow (1939-1995).
