(1449) Virtanen is an asteroid of the main belt , on 20 February 1938 by the Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the Finnish biochemist and Nobel Prize winner Artturi Ilmari Virtanen .
