(14611) Elsaadawi is an asteroid located in the main belt , which was discovered on September 20, 1998 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( observatory code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile .

The asteroid was named on April 22, 2016 after the Egyptian writer , feminist and human rights activist Nawal El Saadawi (* 1931), who campaigned for the improvement of social and economic living conditions for women. It has been repeatedly attacked and threatened by fundamentalist and Islamist circles.

The celestial body belongs to the Astraea family, a group of asteroids named after (5) Astraea .
