(1472) Muonio is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 18 October 1938 by the Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Lappish river Muonio älv [ ˈmuɔniɔ ɛlv ] ( Swedish ) or Muonionjoki [ ˈmuɔniɔnjɔki ] ( Finnish ) or the Finnish city of Muonio .
