(1840) Hus is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 26, 1971 by the Czech astronomer Luboš Kohoutek at the observatory in Hamburg-Bergedorf ( IAU code 029) in Hamburg .

The asteroid is named after the Czech theologian and reformer Jan Hus (1369–1415).
