(21109) Sünkel is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 4, 1992 by the German astronomers Freimut Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel at the observatory of the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033).

The asteroid is named after the Austrian geodesist Hans Sünkel (* 1948), who headed TU Graz as rector from October 2003 to October 2011 .
