(2243) Lönnrot is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 25 September 1941 by the Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku was discovered.

The asteroid is named after the Finnish writer Elias Lönnrot , who collected orally transmitted folk and traditional poetry on his travels. On this basis he wrote the national epic Kalevala .
