(3362) Khufu is an asteroid from Aten type . This describes a group of asteroids whose orbits partly run within the earth's orbit and cross it from within. Khufu approaches the sun up to approx. 0.5 AU and thus even crosses the orbit of Venus .
Khufu was discovered on August 30, 1984 by R. Scott Dunbar and Maria A. Barucci from the Palomar Observatory .
The name of the asteroid is derived from the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu (better known under the Greek name Cheops ).
