(3437) Kapitsa is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 20, 1982 by the Ukrainian astronomer Lyudmila Georgievna Karachkina at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid was named after the Russian physicist Pjotr ​​Leonidowitsch Kapiza (1894-1984), who was awarded the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics .
