(4251) Kavasch is a main belt asteroid discovered on May 11, 1985 by Carolyn Shoemaker from the Palomar Observatory .

The ageless (not osculating ) orbital elements of (4251) Kawasch are almost identical with those of the smaller, if one of the absolute brightness starting from 15.1 compared to 13.9, asteroids (9922) Catcheller .

(4251) Kahasch was named after the German geologist Julius Kavasch (1920–1978) and his son, the local researcher and local politician Wulf-Dietrich Kavasch .
