(4743) Kikuchi is an asteroid of the main belt , of February 16, 1988 by the Japanese amateur astronomers Tetsuya Fujii and Kazuro Watanabe at Kitami Observatory ( IAU code 400) in the prefecture of Hokkaido was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Japanese astronaut Ryōko Kikuchi (* 1964), who was intended as a substitute for the first Japanese astronaut Toyohiro Akiyama .
