(5072) Hioki is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 9, 1931 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at the State Observatory Heidelberg-Königstuhl ( IAU code 024) near Heidelberg .

The asteroid is named after the Japanese astronomer and asteroid explorer Tsutomu Hioki .
