(5142) Okutama is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 18 December 1990 by the Japanese astronomer Tsutomu Hioki and Shuji Hayakawa at the observatory in Okutama ( IAU code 877) in Tokyo was discovered.

The asteroid is named after the observatory where it was discovered.
