(6401) Roentgen is an asteroid of the main belt , the American US on 15 April 1991 by the team of astronomers Carolyn Jean Spellman Shoemaker , Eugene Shoemaker and David H. Levy at Mount Palomar was discovered.

The name of the asteroid was chosen in honor of the German physicist and Nobel Prize winner Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen .
