(6836) Paranal is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 10 August 1994 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 809).
The asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis.
The asteroid was named after the 2,635 m high Cerro Paranal in the Chilean Atacama Desert , the location of the Paranal Observatory of the European Southern Observatory.
