(724) Hapag is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 21, 1911 by the Austrian astronomer Johann Palisa in Vienna .

The asteroid was named after the Hapag shipping company . Palisa had given the builder of the Vienna Kuffner observatory , Moriz von Kuffner, a say in this.
